get it? get it? ‘cause girls are dumb. too dumb to understand poetry, and actually girls are just duped by their own stupid emotions into thinking they can relate but clearly do not have the intellectual chops to read plath like he does. funny stuff!
woody allen is the worst
When asked not to say Merry Christmas, I don’t get why people act like someone’s trying to take something away from them.
Think about how astronomically huge the holiday industry is. Think, realistically, about how big a chunk of that is committed to Christmas. Winter is synonymous with Christmas in the Western world. We’re at the point where it’s been ingrained in us on a deep psychological level. Holiday ads, storefronts, commercials, decorations—it takes over. It’s everything from the end of Halloween until January. Sure, there’s an occasional nod or two to other cultures and the word ‘holiday’ is bandied around a lot, but let’s be real, it’s 99.9% Christmas. It’s an anglo-saxon holiday that, at its root, celebrates the birth of one religion’s messiah, prophet, savior of the world. And yet, millions of other people don’t celebrate it. How many commercials do you see with those people in it, lighting menorahs or lanterns or worshiping at altars? Not a whole heck of a lot.
When people say “Happy Holidays” instead of Merry Christmas, they’re suggesting that maybe there are other people that live and celebrate alongside you; people that are maybe tired of living in a society that, for hundreds of years, has forced anglicization upon the world. Maybe consider how being barraged by a constant slew of nativity scenes and “Merry Christmas”-es every year offends them because, to them, it is more than just some cashier wishing them a good night. To them it is a hundred-years-old utter disregard for their culture and beliefs.
Take an honest minute to put yourself in their shoes. Look back on history a little and consider what the the world in wintertime might look like to someone with a different God (or no God at all). Mind you, the same world that is meant to be very warm and hospitable to you this time of year is the same world that scoffs at them when they pipe up and ask for their feelings to be taken seriously.
Christ taught us about love and inclusion. Making everything about Christmas is not inclusion.
